Podlesnyi
Frol Podlesnyi is a video artist, theatre photographer, and performer. After studying Journalism at Novosibirsk University, he spent more than ten years working as a photographer and videographer across Russia.
Since 2012, his artistic career has been closely connected with theatre. As a staff photographer and videographer, he worked with major theatres including Krasnoyarsk Youth Theatre, Red Torch Theatre, Tyumen Drama Theatre, Old House Theatre, and First Theatre. He also created visual content for numerous international theatre festivals and laboratories, including Novosibirsk Transit, KHOOS, Theatre of Nations Fest, the Dmitri Hvorostovsky Festival, Language of the World, KRYAKK, and Territory. He additionally contributed to projects such as the 2019 Winter Universiade.
Since 2023, Frol has been living and working in Berlin. He collaborates closely with international companies including The Flow and Kirill & Friends and regularly works with directors such as Kirill Serebrennikov, Timofei Kulyabin, Maxim Didenko, Roman Feodori, Nikita Betekhtin, and Alexander Andriyashkin. He also works with institutions including Théâtre du Châtelet (Paris), Zurich Opera House, Dutch National Opera (Amsterdam), Vienna State Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Salzburg Festival, the Munich Biennale, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Thalia Theater Hamburg, and other European cultural institutions.
His recent projects include the international production Hamlet/Fantômes at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Richard Wagner’s Das Rheingold for the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Munich Biennale and the Voices Festival. He also continues to document the international touring productions In the Solitude of Cotton Fields and Cremulator, which are presented worldwide.
