Sin­ce 2018, Or­lov has col­la­bora­ted clo­sely with di­rec­tor Ki­rill Se­reb­renni­kov, wor­king as an ope­ra dra­matur­ge on pro­duc­ti­ons such as Le noz­ze di Fi­garo and Don Gi­ovan­ni / Re­qui­em at the Ko­misc­he Oper Ber­lin, Bo­ris Go­dunov at the Dutch Na­ti­onal Ope­ra in Ams­ter­dam, Li­fe with an Idi­ot at Zu­rich Ope­ra Ho­use and Das Rhe­in­gold at Salz­burg Eas­ter Fes­ti­val.

He is al­so the com­po­ser and mu­sical di­rec­tor of two no­tab­le sta­ge works by Ki­rill Se­reb­renni­kov at Tha­lia The­ater in Ham­burg: Ba­roc­co. A Mu­sical Ma­nifes­to (2023), and Le­gend, which pre­mi­ered in 2024 and was al­so pre­sen­ted at the Ruhr­tri­en­na­le.

In ad­di­ti­on, he com­po­sed the mu­sic for Se­reb­renni­kov’s film Tcha­ikovs­ky’s Wi­fe, which pre­mi­ered in the ma­in com­pe­titi­on at the Can­nes Film Fes­ti­val in 2022.

Sin­ce 2022, Da­ni­il Or­lov has be­en li­ving and wor­king in Ger­ma­ny.
