Daniil Orlov is a pianist, arranger, and composer born in Russia. He received his musical education at the Moscow State Conservatory and completed the Young Artists Opera Program of the Bolshoi Theatre. He also participated in the opera studio training program of the Komische Oper Berlin.
Since 2018, Orlov has collaborated closely with director Kirill Serebrennikov, working as an opera dramaturge on productions such as Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni / Requiem at the Komische Oper Berlin, Boris Godunov at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Life with an Idiot at Zurich Opera House and Das Rheingold at Salzburg Easter Festival.
He is also the composer and musical director of two notable stage works by Kirill Serebrennikov at Thalia Theater in Hamburg: Barocco. A Musical Manifesto (2023), and Legend, which premiered in 2024 and was also presented at the Ruhrtriennale.
In addition, he composed the music for Serebrennikov’s film Tchaikovsky’s Wife, which premiered in the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022.
Since 2022, Daniil Orlov has been living and working in Germany.
