Rus­tem Ima­mi­ev is a com­po­ser, so­und ar­tist, and so­und de­sig­ner born in Vot­kinsk, Rus­sia. He be­gan com­po­sing mu­sic in the ninth gra­de for his lo­cal bre­ak­dance crew. La­ter, whi­le li­ving in St. Pe­ters­burg’s ar­tist squ­ats, he be­came de­ep­ly in­volved in free imp­ro­visa­ti­on and ex­pe­rimen­tal mu­sic, sha­ping an ar­tistic prac­ti­ce ro­oted in at­tenti­ve lis­te­ning and so­nic exp­lo­rati­on. His works ha­ve be­en re­le­ased on vi­nyl by in­de­pen­dent Ber­lin re­cord la­bels.

To­day, his prac­ti­ce com­bi­nes fi­eld re­cor­ding, Fo­ley, so­und synt­he­sis, and com­po­siti­on to cre­ate im­mersi­ve so­nic en­vi­ron­ments. His re­se­arch fo­cuses on so­und eco­logy, no­ise pol­lu­ti­on, the re­lati­ons­hip bet­we­en so­nic en­vi­ron­ments and men­tal well-be­ing, and the hu­man vo­ice as a car­ri­er of me­mory, me­aning, and lan­gu­age. Ba­lan­cing tech­no­logi­cal pre­cisi­on with ex­pe­rimen­ta­ti­on, he app­ro­ac­hes so­und as both an ar­tistic me­di­um and a way of un­ders­tan­ding hu­man ex­pe­ri­en­ce.

His prac­ti­ce mo­ves flu­id­ly bet­we­en mu­sic, con­tempo­rary art, the­at­re, ci­nema, and im­mersi­ve so­und ins­tal­la­ti­ons.
