Chap­ron

Joël Chap­ron (born in Pa­ris in 1960) is a spe­ci­alist in the ci­nema of Cent­ral and Eas­tern Euro­pe, and, mo­re spe­cifi­cal­ly, that of the for­mer So­vi­et Uni­on. From 1995 to 2022, he was he­ad of this re­gi­on at Unif­rance Films, res­ponsib­le for pro­moting French ci­nema. A Rus­si­an lan­gu­age in­terp­re­ter and trans­la­tor, he has sub­titled over a hund­red films, writ­ten nu­mero­us ar­ticles, gi­ven lec­tu­res in Fran­ce and ab­ro­ad, pro­duced DVD bo­nus fe­atu­res and aut­ho­red bo­oks pub­li­shed in Fran­ce and Rus­sia. As a fo­re­ign cor­respon­dent for the Can­nes Film Fes­ti­val for over 30 years, co­vering the co­unt­ri­es of the for­mer USSR, he ser­ved on se­ven oc­ca­si­ons as the of­fi­ci­al in­terp­re­ter for the Rus­si­an ju­ry mem­bers. He is cur­rent­ly a re­se­arch as­so­ci­ate at the Cul­tu­re and Com­mu­nica­ti­on La­bora­tory at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Avig­non.
