Ru­ven Bircks is a the­at­re ma­ker and pro­ducer ba­sed in Ber­lin.

He stu­di­ed The­at­re Stu­di­es at Lud­wig Ma­ximi­li­an Uni­ver­si­ty in Mu­nich and ga­ined ear­ly pro­fes­si­onal ex­pe­ri­en­ce at the Re­sidenz­the­ater Mu­nich, Sta­ats­the­ater Nürnberg, Komödie im Ba­yerisc­hen Hof and in the ar­tistic di­rec­tor’s of­fi­ce of Matt­hi­as Li­li­ent­hal at Münchner Kam­mers­pi­ele. Along­si­de his stu­di­es, he di­rec­ted se­veral in­de­pen­dent pro­duc­ti­ons, inc­lu­ding Mac­beth, Pe­er Gynt and Der Selbstmörder.

From the 2020/21 to the 2022/23 se­ason, Bircks wor­ked as As­sistant Di­rec­tor at Scha­us­pi­el Dort­mund. Du­ring this ti­me, he de­velo­ped and re­ali­sed the di­gital the­at­re pro­jects Mul­ti­ver­ses – A Sto­rytel­ling Per­forman­ce and The Sum­mit Clim­ber, ba­sed on the short sto­ry by Ci­xin Liu. In 2022, he ma­de his di­rec­ting de­but at Scha­us­pi­el Dort­mund with ÜBER LE­BEN by An­na­lena and Kons­tan­tin Küspert. The pro­duc­ti­on was no­mina­ted for the Nach­spi­elp­re­is at the He­idel­berger Stücke­markt in 2023.

Sin­ce 2023, Bircks has be­en ba­sed in Ber­lin, whe­re he is pur­su­ing a Mas­ter’s deg­ree in Cul­tu­ral and Me­dia Ma­nage­ment at Fre­ie Uni­ver­sität Ber­lin. Sin­ce 2024, he has be­en wor­king as a Ju­ni­or Pro­ducer with the in­terna­ti­onal the­at­re com­pa­ny Ki­rill & Fri­ends.

His ar­tistic and pro­ducing prac­ti­ce is sha­ped by in­terna­ti­onal col­la­bora­ti­on and in­terdis­cipli­nary app­ro­ac­hes to per­forman­ce. He is par­ti­cular­ly in­te­res­ted in ab­surdist nar­ra­tives, que­er pers­pec­ti­ves and hor­ror aest­he­tics, exp­lo­ring how the­se can cre­ate spa­ces for both po­liti­cal ref­lecti­on and col­lecti­ve ima­gina­ti­on.
