Ruven Bircks is a theatre maker and producer based in Berlin.
He studied Theatre Studies at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and gained early professional experience at the Residenztheater Munich, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Komödie im Bayerischen Hof and in the artistic director’s office of Matthias Lilienthal at Münchner Kammerspiele. Alongside his studies, he directed several independent productions, including Macbeth, Peer Gynt and Der Selbstmörder.
From the 2020/21 to the 2022/23 season, Bircks worked as Assistant Director at Schauspiel Dortmund. During this time, he developed and realised the digital theatre projects Multiverses – A Storytelling Performance and The Summit Climber, based on the short story by Cixin Liu. In 2022, he made his directing debut at Schauspiel Dortmund with ÜBER LEBEN by Annalena and Konstantin Küspert. The production was nominated for the Nachspielpreis at the Heidelberger Stückemarkt in 2023.
Since 2023, Bircks has been based in Berlin, where he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Cultural and Media Management at Freie Universität Berlin. Since 2024, he has been working as a Junior Producer with the international theatre company Kirill & Friends.
His artistic and producing practice is shaped by international collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches to performance. He is particularly interested in absurdist narratives, queer perspectives and horror aesthetics, exploring how these can create spaces for both political reflection and collective imagination.
