CHE GUEVARA: THE LAST COMPANIONS
Director – Christophe Dimitri Réveille
France, 2026
Documentary
Duration: 98 min.
Nearly sixty years after the death of Che Guevara, this documentary revisits one of the most iconic revolutionary stories of the twentieth century from an unexpected perspective. Rather than focusing on Che himself, the film follows the last surviving members of his guerrilla group, who managed to escape after the failed Bolivian campaign of 1967.
Director Christophe Dimitri Réveille devoted more than twenty years to the project, tracking down the remaining witnesses and recording their testimonies, many of them shared on camera for the first time. Combining rare archival footage, intimate interviews, and animated sequences that recreate the guerrillas’ journey through the mountains and jungles of Bolivia, the film brings a little-known chapter of history vividly to life.
Premiered in the Special Screenings section of the Cannes Film Festival 2026, Che Guevara: The Last Companions is less a political portrait than a human story of loyalty, survival, and memory. It gives voice to the people who remained in the shadows of one of the twentieth century’s most enduring myths.
